Swipe right to see that some things don’t change b Swipe right to see that some things don’t change but kids grow up too fast😭. Throwing this Thursday back to 2017. So blessed that my original wing man still wants to ride shotgun with me & my shipments. Although he no longer needs that booster seat (and I let him sit up front now).😂

So when did your art goto the birds Jen? Someone a So when did your art goto the birds Jen? Someone asked me recently so it prompted me to do some digging. I’ve been an aviation and aeronautical fanatic of the riveted kind since I was a wee little curlybell, but the feathery ones came later in life.

My nautical roots have always drawn me to #shorebirds, with one of my spirit animals being the Great Blue Heron. Big Blue is definitely the first bird I painted, but I had been photographing birds long before that. When my #Grady was still running, it gave me access to birds that I can’t replicate today. The closest I got to real birding was spending time with some Nat. Geo wildlife photographers on a photography course in the Viera Wetlands and on #MerritIsland. Then there was Summers spent #Airstreaming on the #Chesapeake Bay on the #EasternShore of Virginia.

Since then, my aviary has grown to include the amazing creatures of the hundred acre wood where I live. And while I got as close to owning my own camo bird blind in order to “bird” and take photographs, I’m no birder. Envision a clumsy and curly, redhead romping around the wetlands of the Mid-Atlantic. This Fancy Nancy in wading boots doesn’t exactly blend in, lol.

I did sit so still once in a clearing on #Assateague Island that Gold Crown Kinglets encircled me like a sparkling golden tornado. They were probably looking for nesting material from my head but it was pure magic.

The other origin story comes from my friendship with the incomparable Dan Haas. Dan IS a birder who has inspired me over the years to look at flight in a feathery light, lol. I’m still fascinated by this encyclopedia-esque knowledge of all things aviary and he has always been so gracious in helping me to identify feathered friends from time to time. I continue to live vicariously through his IG birdventures (and you should too—> @nervousbird ;) Thanks Haashead.

It brings me a great deal of joy to see my paintings hanging on the walls of family, friends and complete strangers. I hope you didn’t mind my trip down memory lane. Thanks for the question! And I hope you can find some good material here for your feed @denver.audubon

So as a girl with salt water and sand in her veins So as a girl with salt water and sand in her veins, I find it very hard to work on my shop during the Summer months. And even though I know that Christmas is my busiest and most profitable time of year as an artist, somehow I still choose to put the jolly holly on hold. Then a few weeks ago, I was asked to create an special ornament for an amazing couple.

The family lost their little girl to cancer and so each year since, they celebrate her by adding an ornament to a memorial tree in their home on her birthday. Much like me, she loved the sea and it was the last place she visited before she passed. I don’t normally share the more delicate of stories from those who contract my work for fear that people will think I’m capitalizing on another person’s tragedy. But this particular one just affected me in a much different way. I honestly feel like someone was talking to me and telling me to get my head out of my salty ass & get back to work.

For almost 10 years, so many of you have invited me into your homes by gifting or displaying items I’ve made for you. But it’s always the ornaments that seem to connect the most with you, your recipients and me. My intention from day one was always to create heirlooms that tell your unique story to be cherished for generations to come. At one point I thought selling ornaments in large quantities would be nice but it’s not at the core of who I am. I’d rather touch one person in a deeply meaningful way than mass produce items that end up in the heap pile. This story reminded me of how important it is to return to my little workshop even if the weather calls for a bikini, lol. I’m also happy to report that this family welcomed a precious baby boy into their lives this year.❤️❤️❤️

Thank you again for letting me be part of your story friends. I’ll have more to share soon:)

About Me

Born from my love of Babci's collection of hand painted wooden and glass Christmas ornaments made in Poland and Germany, I want a new generation to experience the magic and wonder nestled among the boughs. Every tree tells a story..what is yours?
